This is the inside of a BT roadside cabinet. This is where the copper wires that connect to each individual house are grouped and fed onto the local exchange. This one is in Newton Abbot.
I am always fascinated by these cabinets, what appears to be a fairly disorganised mess probably has some hidden order and structure, but I’m sure only a telecoms engineer can make sense of the seemingly random connections. Make sense of it or not, I’m certain it is a work of art.
