Boat of Balliefurth is a popular camping spot on the Spey descent, it is about half way between Boat of Garten and Grantown-on-Spey. The campsite has basic facilities but includes a fire-pit, plenty of firewood, and is managed by a friendly Scot who trains champion sheepdogs in his spare time.
Here the Spey is mirror calm with surface evaporation clearly visible in the cool of the breaking day. This scene is framed by two up-turned canoes, soon to be loaded for another day’s journey. Shortly after taking this shot we were joined by a playful otter watching us from the far bank.
