Human Shield

Henry Moore‘s “Warrior with Shield” - Santa Croce in Florence
It is a surprise to find a strikingly modern Henry Moore sculpture in the cloister of a Medieval Italian church known for its Trecento frescoes and Renaissance era tombs. The reason is that  Moore had  a sort of infatuation with Florence that led the sculptor to gift many of his works to the city before his death in 1986.
For me sculpture should always be publicly accessible, in this shot it is the proximity of a random passer-by that creates the enigmatic contrast between art and life.
