Gas Street Basin is the start point of the Birmingham to Worcester Canal. The basin is also shared by the Birmingham Canal which terminated at Old Wharf beyond Bridge Street. The two canals were once separated by The Worcester Bar which meant cargoes had to be hand hauled from one canal to the other. Nowadays the canals are linked and the basin has undergone large scale redevelopment as a retail and leisure destination - but still many traditional narrow boats moor at the basin.
