Old Mascoma Bridge (The Shaker Bridge 1938)

Lake Mascoma lies in western New Hampshire. Fed by the Knox River it drains into the Mascoma River, a tributary of the great Connecticut River.

This bridge lies on the approach to Enfield, New Hampshire, not far from Route 4. This is Shaker territory and the area between the lake and Mount Assurance  was known as the “Chosen Vale”. Here the “Great Stone Dwelling” was the largest Shaker house ever constructed and is, today, home to the Shaker museum.
