Leaving Killin, Loch Tay

Tradition dictates that any River Tay canoe trip should start at Killin. Magnificently sited at the Falls of Dochart where the rivers Dochart and Lochay spill into the 14.5 mile long Loch Tay.

Easing out of Killin through the clear still waters fresh from the early May snow-melt, we set our pace for long steady afternoon against a light cooling easterly breeze. Within three hours this serene landscape, transformed by a force 4, denied us our goal of reaching Priory Island.
